The First Church of God in St. James is part of a network of independent congregations known as the Church of God, with general offices located in Anderson, Indiana. Our congregation has been in existence since 1887 and has worshipped in its current location since 1979.

The Church of God emphasizes that a “born-again” salvation experience makes each believer a member of the Church, eliminating the need for formal membership in the local congregation. We hold the Holy Bible as the inspired and infallible Word of God, representing His complete revelation to humanity. We believe that holiness is a realistic and attainable lifestyle, achievable through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and is commanded by God for all who follow Christ. Our mission is to serve together in unity, working toward the common goal of building up His Kingdom on earth.
